About Andrea Pontedoro
The Italian violin maker Andrea Pontedoro spent 12 years living and working in Edinburgh before moving back to Trieste in 2012. Pontedoro began his studies in 1995 and went on to study in both Bologna and Florence before setting up his own violin workshop in Edinburgh.
About the violin
The violin was made in 2007 and is a personal model with influences of various Cremonese makers. It has a length of back of 355mm.
The violin has a one piece back of highly-figured maple, the flame descending from left to right. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce, widening towards the flanks. The varnish is a sunny golden colour.
How does it sound?
This violin projects exceedingly well and is even across the strings. It would make an excellent partner for a music student looking for an instrument which behaves like an older violin of the Modern Italian school.
Condition
The violin is in excellent original condition.
