Violin by Eric Jackson, North Uist, 2014
About Eric Jackson
Eric Jackson is based in the Scottish Borders, having previously had his workshop in beautiful North Uist. He trained at the prestigious Newark School of Violin Making and is an extremely experienced maker and restorer.
We are delighted that Eric has moved nearby, and to have one of his violins here for sale!
About the violin
Made in 2014, this was the last of Eric's violins to be made in his North Uist workshop. The violin is modelled after the 1735 'Plowden' Guarneri 'del Gesù'.
The violin has a two piece back of irregularly flamed maple. The ribs and scroll are of plainer wood. The front is two pieces of highly-figured bear claw spruce and the varnish is an unshaded golden amber.
The violin has a length of back of 351 mm.
How does it sound?
The violin is brilliantly responsive and very powerful, a bit like a racehorse! It has a neat, cheerful character and allows its player to be heard without effort.
Condition
The violin is in original mint condition.
