About Joan Zoroa Olivella
Joan Zoroa Olivella was born in Barcelona and is now based in Dunfermline. He graduated in 2011 from the prestigious International Violin Making School in Cremona, moving to England the next year to take up posts in workshops in both London and Staffordshire.
Joan opened his own workshop in the beautiful Abbot House in Dunfermline in December 2022, combining new making with restoration.
About the violin
This violin was made in Dunfermline in 2024 and was the first instrument to be completed in Joan's workshop in the historic Abbot House. It is a copy of the 'Viuextemps' del Gesu of 1741.
The violin has a two piece back of quarter-sawn maple with ribs and scroll of similar wood. The front is two pieces of medium-grained spruce and the varnish is a shaded golden-amber.
The violin has a length of back of 356 mm.
How does it sound?
This violin has a dark, powerful sound and lots of richness. It's very quick to respond and has pleasingly crunchy articulation in the lower register.
Condition
The violin is in original mint condition.

The violin comes with the certificate of the maker.
