About Nina Poots
Nina is a Glasgow-based luthier who graduated from the Newark School of Violin Making. She maintains a busy workshop in the city, combining new making with restoration.
Nina graduated with a BA in Art Education in her native Netherlands before coming to Scotland to study violin making at Glasgow Clyde College. She then continued her studies at the Newark School of Violin Making, graduating in 2022.
About the viola
This viola is Nina's eighth instrument and the first to be made in her Glasgow workshop. It was completed in December 2022 and is modelled after the 1615 'Stauffer' Brothers Amati.
The viola has a two piece back of relatively plain book-matched maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce and the varnish is golden-amber in colour.
The viola has a length of back of 16 inches.
How does it sound?
This viola has a beautiful cantabile voice, particularly in the upper register. It's a loveable, characterful instrument that works well in all settings.
Condition
The viola is in original mint condition.
Certification
The viola comes with the certificate of the maker.
