Violin by Rory Boardman, Donaghadee, 2021
About Rory Boardman
Based in County Down, Northern Ireland, Rory is a brilliant new maker. He learnt violin making with his father, Peter Boardman, one of Ireland´s most respected luthiers.
Rory´s background as an engineer lends his making precision and great conceptual strength, whilst his training as a Classical violinist ensures that his instruments never leave the bench until they´re playing their best!
About the violin
This violin was made in 2021 and is a personal model which takes influence from Stradivari.
The violin has a two piece back of beautiful flamed maple. The front is two pieces of fairly broad-grained spruce with a slight bear claw figuration to the upper bouts. The varnish is orange-red in colour.
The violin is not antiqued and has a length of back of 358 mm.
How does it sound?
This violin has a pure sound which is direct without ever being shrill. It is a pleasingly flexible instrument which allows the player to warm up the tone with ease. This is a refined instrument which I find adds a degree of gloss to my playing when I´m feeling out of practice!
Condition
The violin is in original mint condition.
